    Herb's Description

    Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Linn. Arborescent, stem without prickles. Leaves short-petioled, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, more or less acuminate, irregularly and coarsely serrate towards the top, entire near the base, glabrous on both sides or with a few minute stellate hairs on the nerves beneath; stipules lanceolate-subulate, glabrous. Pedicels axillary, solitary, very long, as long as, or longer than the leaves, jointed above the middle. Involucrul bracts 5-7, about half as long as the calyx, lanceolate* glabrous. Calyx divided almost to the middle, puberulous with very minute stellate hairs, lobes 2 cm long, lanceolate. Corolla 7.5 cm in diameter, tubular below, red; petals, thrice as long as the calyx. Staminal tube extended far beyond the petals. As extremely variable species, there are single and double forms and as to colour, the flowers may be orange, yellow, crimson, bright red, magenta or of other colours
